After the victory over the Empire, Ezra's fate remains an open question for his friends from "Rebels". His disappearance is tied to Thrawn, so the personal hope of rescuing a friend is inseparable from the danger of a powerful enemy returning. For the New Republic, reports of a threat do not yet mean a willingness to commit resources to a search right away. Hera has to convince others to take her experience seriously, while Ahsoka works closer to the actual leads. The series shows the gap between a war that is over for the state and the unfinished business of the people who fought it.
Teacher, apprentice and the fear of repeating the past
Ahsoka and Sabine's partnership is complicated by their earlier training and a breakdown of trust. Ahsoka remembers where a gifted student's path can end, and Sabine carries losses of her own and is not always ready to accept the limits set for her. Their arguments are about more than lightsaber drills. The real question is whether a mentor can see the student as a separate person without dooming them to repeat someone else's tragedy. Alongside them are Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati, another pair with a different understanding of power and of what training is for.
A path that could open the same door for both sides
Morgan Elsbeth organizes the search for Thrawn, drawing on knowledge and connections that reach beyond the ordinary imperial military network. A star map becomes the object of competition, because the road to the missing admiral is also the road to Ezra. Peridea lies in another galaxy, and the purrgil can make a journey that ordinary ships manage only with special preparation. There Morgan finds Thrawn and the Great Mothers. Ezra returns to his own galaxy, but Thrawn also gets his chance to return, while Ahsoka and Sabine remain on Peridea. The personal success of the search does not remove the military threat.
To reach Ezra, Sabine agrees to hand the map over to their enemies and goes with them. That choice also opens the way to Peridea for those searching for Thrawn.
