About this story
The New Republic needs help on the ground
The film's official premise centers on the state of the galaxy after the fall of the Empire. Scattered warlords can still threaten people, while the New Republic works to protect what the Rebellion fought for. To do that, it enlists Din Djarin and Grogu. This continues an important theme of the series: remote territories do not become safe just because a different flag flies over the capital. A hunter's experience, knowledge of local networks and the ability to work as a small team can be needed in places that large institutions struggle to reach quickly.
A mentor and a child who already makes his own choices
By this point Grogu has gone from being the target of a hunt to a member of a shared family. His abilities are growing, and Din has to combine protection with teaching. Their relationship is different from the first season, when the hunter knew almost nothing about the child. An important part of the background is the choice Grogu has already made: belonging to the Mandalorians and his connection to the Force do not automatically cancel each other out. The real question is how to use the skills he has gained and whom to trust with the rest of his growing up.
What to know before watching
The main preparation is seasons 1-3 of "The Mandalorian" and the final part of "The Book of Boba Fett", where an important shift in the heroes' relationship takes place. "The Clone Wars" and "Rebels" add Mandalorian history but do not replace Din's direct backstory. The film was released on May 22, 2026; the official page places it in the New Republic era. The archive's mark of about 10 ABY is a reference point within the route, not a claim that every event has a confirmed exact date.
Route context
The Galaxy After Endor
The Alliance becomes a state that has to secure peace for war-weary worlds. Yet Imperial remnants, local warlords and pirate networks do not go away. The stories of Din, Grogu, Boba, Ahsoka and the lost children show the era from different angles: the search for a home, responsibility for others, unfinished business from the past and the distance between the promise of shared security and life on the fringes.

Before the events of the film, Grogu had already completed part of his training with Luke Skywalker and then chose on his own to return to Din. Jedi training and Mandalorian belonging therefore coexist as he grows up.
