About this story
The Resistance after Crait
A year after the escape from Crait, the heroes are trying to rebuild their strength and find allies. Rey continues her training, while Poe and Finn now have to act as people others depend on. News of a new threat sends them out again as a small team: a large-scale military response is impossible without knowing where to look for the enemy and how to get there. Familiar motifs return: old expeditions, lost trails and people who have kept pieces of vital information for years. In a galaxy where fear pushes people to stay apart, simply finding trusted contacts becomes an important part of the fight.
Origin and one's own choice
Rey is increasingly afraid not only of her enemy but also of what she herself might do. Her relationship with Kylo reveals an unusual bond that lets them affect each other even at a distance. At the same time, her search for answers about her family threatens to become a ready-made explanation of her future. The central question is what defines a person: where they come from, or the decisions they make for themselves. The theme leads back to Luke's path: family history does not decide an act in advance, though it can make temptation personal and persuasive.
Why the finale concerns the whole galaxy
Exegol is hidden in the Unknown Regions and tied to an ancient Sith tradition and its followers. The threat that comes from there demands more than one master winning a duel. The Resistance has to give other people the means to act and convince them that they will not be left alone against a stronger enemy. The storylines of Rey, Finn, Poe and the veterans converge in this need for mutual support. As the conclusion of the saga, the film returns to the struggle over legacy: what exactly the next generation will take from the Skywalker story, and to whom that story will be passed on.
Route context
The Skywalker Legacy
Luke's attempt to found a new school ends in disaster, and the New Republic underestimates the forces that grew out of the Empire's legacy. Rey, Finn and Poe come to the fight by different paths, while Leia once again rallies people around the Resistance. The final trilogy explores inheritance through choice: what to do with the mistakes of mentors, a dark family past and knowledge that has to be passed on. The announced story about Rey is marked separately as a future project.

Palpatine is on Exegol, directing a plan to restore Sith rule; Snoke was part of his design. Rey learns that she is the Emperor's granddaughter. After Leia's death and a memory of Han, Kylo abandons his dark role and becomes Ben again.
Rey confronts Palpatine with the support of the voices of past Jedi, and an allied fleet helps break his military plan. Ben gives his life to save Rey. Afterward she takes the name Skywalker, claiming a family defined by her teachers and her own choice rather than by descent from Palpatine.
