About this story
After a victory that brought no peace
Five years after the first KOTOR, the Republic is still trying to recover from the devastation. Its problems show in the lives of individual worlds: Telos needs rebuilding, refugees are piling up on Nar Shaddaa, and the disputes on Onderon could decide its future relationship with the Republic. The Jedi Order has nearly vanished, but the absence of a major open war does not make the galaxy safe. The Sith exploit this scattered state, hunting down those still able to resist them. The hero begins the journey without the protection of a powerful Order.
The Exile, Kreia and people scarred by war
The central character once belonged to the Jedi and fought in the war, but now has to rethink their connection to the Force from the ground up. Alongside them are people who also carry the consequences of past disasters. Kreia is not satisfied with an answer that merely looks right: she pushes the hero to examine the motives behind helping, how dependent others become on them and the distant consequences of good intentions. Companions respond to the player's behavior, so influence becomes a separate part of the story. What matters is not only who the main character defeats, but also who the people around them become.
The Force, trauma and inherited responsibility
KOTOR II puts at its center questions that a heroic adventure often has no time to answer. What happens to those who survived mass death? Is freedom of choice preserved when a mentor keeps steering the student? Can old institutions be restored without repeating their mistakes? The answers unfold through locations, arguments and the stories of companions. For a first encounter, it is worth playing KOTOR first: the sequel returns to its consequences and expects the player to already understand Revan's role and the state of the Old Republic.
Route context
Origins of the Force
The galaxy long before the familiar film saga: Rakatan domination, the rise of the Republic and wars that outlasted generations of Jedi and Sith. Ancient technology here is bound up with the Force, and political alliances do not yet look the way they will later. The events and games in this section belong to Legends. They show where Star Wars stories get their lost worlds, powerful relics and arguments about what the Jedi Order is for.

Darth Nihilus, Darth Sion and Darth Traya each tie their power to a warped way of existing through the Force. Their stories converge with the aftermath of the Battle of Malachor V. Kreia turns out to be Darth Traya, and her lessons take on a different meaning once the mentor's hidden goals become clear.
Later Legends material identifies the Exile as Meetra Surik. The game itself lets players customize the hero, so this name should not be read as a limit on player choice.
